Overview
Launched in 2001, CEMEX Global Center for Technology and innovation is based in Switzerland. The center is located not only near CEMEX's European operations, but also Europe's technology centers and research academy.

Focus
The center's goal is to develop innovative building solutions and business practices that keep CEMEX, its customers, and suppliers at the forefront of the industry. To that end, it focuses on research and development in the areas of product development, cement process technology, business processes and information technology, sustainability, and energy and CO2 emissions reduction.

Value initiatives
The center's product development area designs new and enhanced construction materials, from cementitious materials—such as cement, fly ash, and slag—to concrete, mortar, admixtures, aggregates, and asphalt. It also evaluates and develops sustainable methods of construction, including the use of byproducts, wastes, and recycled materials across the company's core businesses.

Given the importance of energy, the center works to ensure that all of CEMEX's operations receive a consistent, competitive, and sustainable supply of energy. It also works with strategic partners in the energy sector to develop and deploy renewable energy initiatives and to reduce the company's environmental impact.

The center further manages worldwide emission reduction projects under the Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol - which ensures the recognition of these initiatives in countries without mandatory emissions reduction targets and promotes the profitability of these projects by allocating them with tradable carbon certificates. This effort enables us to reduce our carbon footprint and our global exposure to energy risk.
