Mexico’s ambassador to Egypt welcomed the inaugural class of the first accredited, international graduate-level Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program in the governorate of Assiut. The MBA program is offered through a unique partnership between CEMEX and France-based ESLSCA (Ecole Supérieure Libre des Sciences Comerciales Appliquées), a leading European business school.

“This unique and one-of-a-kind partnership between CEMEX and an internationally recognized business school combines rigorous and real-world learning. The program is designed to develop high potential executives to become Egypt’s next senior business leaders,” said Sergio Menendez, President of CEMEX in Egypt.

CEMEX provides a scholarship of 20% for all students from Upper Egypt and provides the facilities where all classes are held. The inaugural class is composed of 60 students, with an average of five years work experience in a wide range of industries, from healthcare to manufacturing, at small companies, as well as large international corporations. The MBA program will give students the opportunity to tackle real-time projects and to apply classroom insights to the business issues that matter to them.

“The best way to address Upper Egypt’s need for an educated labor force is to expand education opportunities. With this program, CEMEX has added another innovative community initiative to its portfolio of social development programs; one that not only responds to local employment needs, but also complements Egypt’s education development plans,” Jorge Alvarez Fuentes, Mexico’s ambassador to Egypt.

Expanding educational opportunities in Egypt is a major focus of CEMEX. Since 2000, the company has implemented an array of value-added programs, including its Food-for-Education initiative with the UN World Food Program and its long-term partnership with Assiut University.

During the ambassador’s visit, he also observed CEMEX’s recently announced US$100 million investment plan, focused on improving its operations and supporting the country’s housing, commercial, and infrastructure development. Among other benefits, the operational improvements are expected to further enhance the company’s affordable housing efforts, fostering the creation of new jobs in Upper Egypt.
