CEMEX collaborates with renowned architect for historic town hall near Paris

Date published: September 19, 2013

CEMEX supplied specialty high-performance white architectural concrete to help realize the vision of renowned architect Jean-Pierre Lott to construct a new town hall for Bagnolet, a busy suburb of Paris, France. Connected to the historic town hall, the modern six-story structure covers approximately 11,000 square meters and is an integral part of the global town center redevelopment plan.

"The architectural concrete allowed me to realize a conceptual project, expressing sophisticated forms and guaranteeing continuity between the concept and the finished construction," says Jean-Pierre Lott.

Built of white concrete on sloping terrain, the new structure has the same dimensions and stands opposite the historic town hall, which is connected by a footbridge. Scaled to naturally fit the site, the building features a 28 meter-high atrium and three gigantic slabs projecting from its façade.

CEMEX white concrete offered both structural and aesthetic solutions, including high fire resistance and guaranteed longevity, while enabling flexibility of form and implementation. CEMEX’s local production site, dedicated to special projects, catered to the demanding delivery schedule required by the projects contractor. The company poured 7,500 m3 of concrete, including 1,208 m3 of Architectonique white concrete and 441 m3 of high-performance concrete according to the project’s precise timetables.

Jean-Pierre Lott was born in Paris in 1962. He studied architecture in Marseille and Paris, where he graduated from UP8 (Paris Belleville) in 1988. Among his most outstanding designs is the Simona apartment building in Monaco, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful living spaces of the past few years. CEMEX has been the supplier of choice for two more of his profile projects, the Library of Saint-Ouen near Paris and the School de Gaillac, in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
