CEMEX has provided over 200,000 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete for the newest manufacturing facility of the world’s leading computer chip maker. The facility, located in Arizona, is projected to be one of the most advanced, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the world. The project began in summer 2011 and is expected to reach completion in summer 2012.

An aggressive construction schedule called for the placement of 750 cubic yards per hour for a total of 105,225 cubic yards in just the first 90 days of construction. To meet this challenging requirement, the Phoenix Ready Mix team designed a high strength/ low water cement ratio mix using 40 percent high volume fly ash for the matt slabs, along with value added products such as Eclipse and Novomesh 950.

The team’s efforts to find creative ways to make our customer successful did not go unnoticed. “Project managers for the contractor, Hoffman Construction, were pleased with our ability to meet the challenge of the technical and logistical requirements of this project,” said Jennifer Monson, CEMEX Ready-Mix Manager for the Arizona Territory. “We only had a 30-day window from ‘Notice to Proceed’ to set up the on-site plants and be in production and we were ready before deadline.”

At a global level, CEMEX does not “simply manufacture concrete”, but develops solutions based on the thorough knowledge and application of concrete technology. Leveraging years of experience, a worldwide pool of knowledge, and state-of-the-art expertise about the different concrete constituents and their interaction, CEMEX offers its customers “concrete by design”—tailor-made concrete.
