CEMEX inaugurates new primary crusher at its Hollitzer quarry in Austria, largest in the country

Date published: October 25, 2011

CEMEX in Austria celebrated the opening of the new, ultra-modern primary crusher at its facilities near the Danube River. This 3.5 million euro project will boost the quarry’s productivity through reduced processing cost and lower fuel consumption. The new crusher will also have a positive effect on the carbon footprint of the quarry.

The new facility is designed to crush large pieces of rock after blasting for further processing in order to produce aggregates, an indispensable ingredient in ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and mortar. Accounting for approximately 60% to 75% of ready-mix concrete’s volume, aggregates strongly influence concrete’s freshly mixed and hardened properties. Aggregates not only increase concrete’s strength, but also can make the mix more compact, enabling applications such as weatherproofing and heat retention.

The advantage of the new system is that raw materials can be crushed in a single production step. Together with business partners, customers and local stakeholders, CEMEX celebrated this addition, which makes the Hollitzer quarry the largest in Austria.

CEMEX in Austria has invested some 10 million Euros during the last 5 years in modern technology at its Hollitzer quarry. The company is very proud to operate Austria’s most efficient quarry with a yearly aggregates capacity of 1.2 million tons.
