CEMEX has begun offering its customers in France recycled aggregates at four of its major port facilities near Paris. The use of aggregates obtained from recycled materials is a key sustainability initiative in the country during 2011.

This recycling process has a double advantage because it creates value for a by-product by giving it a new use as construction material after it is transformed, but it also saves a considerable amount of natural non-renewable resources. Aggregates produced from this process do not come from the traditional extraction operations at the aggregate sites.

The company has the capacity to receive raw materials such as recycled concrete at its facilities and then process and crush them to produce construction aggregates that can then be delivered to customers. Recently, CEMEX delivered 8,000 tons of recycled aggregates for the construction of a 15,000-meter platform to be used for the road offices of a project in Normandy.

The recycled aggregates initiative is the result of collaboration between CEMEX commercial teams and the port activities teams to offer new products and solutions that make sustainable development a priority.

This effort highlights one of many actions being undertaken worldwide as part of CEMEX's commitment to sustainable development.
