CEMEX in the Czech Republic has donated 23 m3 of ready-mix concrete that will be used to help renovation efforts at the Josefovské louky Ornithological Park in Eastern Bohemia. The renovation is being spearheaded by the Czech Society for Ornithology, the Czech partner of BirdLife International. CEMEX has an ongoing ten-year global partnership with BirdLife International signed in 2007, aimed at enhancing biodiversity conservation and development.

The Josefovské louky Ornithological Park has been a landmark for over a century, with a unique irrigation system created between 1902 and 1912. But time has taken its toll on the park, and it requires urgent renovation of its irrigation system, the creation of a habitat for wetland species, and other repairs to make it accessible to the public. The donated concrete will serve as a fundamental element to the repair of individual irrigation channels that play a key role in water amount regulation throughout the park.

Over the past three years, the park has taken many steps in improving its situation. Several hectares of land have been bought, eight pools have been built, and the renovation of the irrigation system is a crucial next step in this effort. This will allow the creation of a suitable habitat for some birds and permit continued farming on meadows.
