Tree planting ceremony at Shefeya lime plant in Israel

Date published: April 20, 2010

To celebrate Israel’s traditional Festival of Trees, our lime plant at Shefeya invited 200 8th and 9th grade students from the "HaHoresh" school in Zichron Ya'acov to a special tree planting event along the Dalia stream near our operations.

The event was organized in collaboration with the "Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – Jewish National Fund", which supplied 180 Eucalyptus plants, and with the Education Department of the Zichron Ya'acov Municipality.

The planting event forms part of the lime plant's work schedule, and promotes the plant's eco-friendliness and further improves its status as a "Green Plant". The two rows of trees, once they have grown tall and flourished on the banks of the stream, will help to reduce the effect of dust on the environment, will create a natural barrier, stabilize the earth on the banks of the stream, and prevent the stacks of raw material nearby from sliding into the stream.

The day of the event students, teachers, and employees collaborated to bring this project to fruition. All were satisfied of their accomplishment and their contribution to improving the area’s ecosystem.

This event is part of our efforts to collaborate with local communities to mitigate the environmental impact of our operations, in support of CEMEX's Sustainable Development Model.
